Vector Sails

excellence in sailmaking

 1/12/09  Errica's Rule

Rich Silverman and his Vector powered, Mike Eldred built Errica, handed a 32 boat fleet their collective hats at the R-3 Champs held at Quiet Waters Park, Pompano, FL January 10th & 11th. in a repeat of last year's win. Rich's margin of victory was 42pts. over the second boat sailed by Peter Van Rossem of Canada. Rich's sail inventory was comprised of 1.4mil Mylar (PET) A sails on a 11.1mm Groovy mast. Few IOM designs are as successful as the Ericca. The venerable Martin Firebrace design debuted in the late 90's and is arguably one the best of Firebrace's efforts. Congratulations Rich......high hopes for a IOM Worlds berth in Barbados this June.

11/02/08 Peter Van Rossem tops'em in Detroit

For the second year in a row, Peter Van Rossem sailing a Topiko has won the 2008 IOM US Nationals with Vector Sails, and this time using the new CPM 505 material for his primary power source. Peter's margin was an astounding 40 points over the second place boat, driving home the point that good sails always make the difference. In fact, Vector Sails finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th & 8th. need we say more....

10/15/07  Vector gets first delivery of CPM 505 sail material
To fill a big gap in our material inventory Vector Sails has received our first rolls of this once extinct material. First introduced in the 1970's as Test 505 for dinghy spinnakers, was eventually discontinued in favor of more suitable woven Nylon ripstop materials. As remaining small amounts sat on shelves for years unused,  R/C sailmakers began to experiment only to find 505 possessing some very attractive qualities like pliability and wrinkle resistance, which were not available in more commonly used materials like PET also known as "drafting Mylar". CPM 505 was principally used in the EC-12, Marblehead classes, and  is being introduced to other highly competitive classes as the IOM, Victoria and US1M with promising results.Though still produced in small amounts, cost is a consideration. But for the most competitive, it's worth it.
